World Values Survey


Data description 

The World Values Survey is based on a worldwide investigation of socio-cultural and political change, undertaken by a network of social scientists and coördinated by the World Values Survey Association (Stockholm). The WVS is designed for analysis of the basic values and beliefs of subjects in more than 80 societies.

Time period  

In 2010 the WVS network issued the WVS five-wave aggregated file for 1981-2005 .

Four earlier waves of the World Values Survey are also available :

How to access data 

Users must first register on the left side of the World Values Survey  page, at the 'Download Survey Data Files' link.

Surveys are available in Stata, SAS and SPSS formats.

The WVS network also provides a tutorial on online data analysis .
