Council of Europe Classification and Shelf Numbers

A selection of Council of Europe publications in line with the EUI's research intrerests are kept on the upper floor of the Library. These are classified according the EDC classification scheme.

This scheme was drawn up in-house for the needs of the European documentation and each class mark is composed of:

  • Issuing body: two capital letters (CO for Council of Europe)

  • Subject division: two capital letters

  • Form division: periodicals (33), series (66), books (99)

CO = Council of Europe publications

HH = Human rights

99 = monograph

Subject divisions

Subject divisions have been developed to incorporate the various institutions (e.g. Committee of Ministers) and working areas/subjects of the Council of Europe. The following list includes the main divisions regarding this collection.

  • CO-AA: Parliamentary Assembly
  • CO-BB: Committee of Ministers

  • CO-FF: General publications

  • CO-GG: Press and information

  • CO-HH: Human Rights

  • CO-HK: Court of Human Rights

  • CO-KK: Legal affairs

  • CO-LL: Crime
  • CO-MM: Health

  • CO-NN: Social affairs, Employment

  • CO-PP: Environment, Consumer affairs

  • CO-QQ: Population

  • CO-RR: Municipal and regional affairs

  • CO-SS: Education, Youth, Culture
