European Documentation Centre at EUI

Europe Direct, © European Union, 1995-2011 The European Documentation Centre (EDC) was established in 1976 by a convention with the European Commission to support academic study and research on European integration. Given the European emphasis of the research carried out in the EUI, the EDC naturally forms a pivotal part of the Library.

Official EU documents have been collected since the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1953.

  What are ‘official EU documents’?

The EDC collaborates closely with the Historical Archives of the EU  which make available to the public documents coming from the European Institutions as well as those of pro-European movements and personalities.

The EDC collection includes:

The EDC collection has its own classification scheme .

Most of individual items in the EDC are included in the Library's Catalogue .

Access

The EDC is an open access collection, primarily for the EUI research community. However it is possible for members of the public to access the printed collections in the EDC. Report to the Library reception desk and explain to the Library staff that you wish to consult the EDC.

Location

The EDC is located on the Top floor of the Library and parts of the collection (publications in French, Italian and German) are located in the EDC annexe on the Lower Ground floor (see Interactive Floorplan Overview ).

Opening Hours

The EDC follows the Library's opening hours .
