WebBridge: Linking to Full-text

What is WebBridge?

WebBridge is a software that provides links between resources using the OpenURL standard. In this way, information from a citation in a database is compared with the full-text electronic journals subscribed to by the EUI Library; if it finds a match (journal title and year), WebBridge provides a link to the full-text.

How do I use WebBridge?

The display and location of this link varies from database to database. Look for the EUIlogoWebBridge  button or a textual link for "WebBridge" or "Other EUI Resources". Below is an example of the WebBridge link from Historical Abstracts.

Clicking the link will open a new browser window showing related resources, and if available, a direct link to the full-text. For some databases, the link to full-text in the WebBridge window will go directly to the article; in other instances users may be taken to the journal or database homepage - this is dependant upon the ability of the external database to resolve OpenURLs.

The Library Catalogue has also been set up to use WebBridge. When viewing a record in the Catalogue, clicking on the "Other EUI Resources" button will open a new browser window or tab, offering context-sensitive links to other databases, based on your most recent search in the Catalogue.

In which databases will I find the WebBridge link or button?

WebBridge is available from a growing number of research databases. WebBridge links will display automatically in the databases listed below.

What if full-text is not listed in the WebBridge window?

There are many reasons why a link to the full-text of an article or book won't appear in the WebBridge window. It may be that the database where you clicked the link originally did not send enough citation information in the OpenURL to allow WebBridge to determine whether EUI Library users have access to full-text. Always check the Library Catalogue  to see if the item is available in electronic or print format. Check the article's publication year against the Library's holdings as listed in the Catalogue record, to confirm whether the Library owns the specific issue you need.

What if I encounter a problem or a broken link?

If you encounter a problem when using a WebBridge link, please submit a Problem Report Form . Please include as many details as possible, including the database where you found the link, the citation, and if possible, the URL that displays in the WebBridge browser window.
