2. Before starting your online submission, prepare the required attachments as specified:

a one-page CV (electronic size max 400 KB)

a research proposal of 4-5 pages in English or French, focused on a research theme dealt with by the Department of choice. It should state the scope, objectives, the reasons for, background and the state of the art in the field (with references to the literature), methodology, hypotheses/theories, a description of the empirical component and sources and a short bibliography. The EUI does not offer individual guidance on research proposals. You are advised to consult the Research Themes webpage.

a degree transcript, issued by your university or a personal declaration listing the exams/courses taken at university, grades/marks awarded and (if applicable) the final degree result (electronic size max 800 KB). Submit your transcript as a scanned file or attach your personal declaration to the on-line application. Do not attach or send supplementary documents that are not strictly requested, such us the copy of your official diploma, language certificates, traineeships diplomas etc.
Note that attachments must be RTF or PDF, using standard international fonts.
Do NOT use macros, special characters, password-protected attachments, electronic signatures or logos.
Do NOT attach multiple files. The online system accepts only one CV, one degree transcript (i.e. multiple transcripts must be saved into the same file), one research proposal.

The deadline for 2012/2013 has expired. The on-line form is currently deactivated
with the exception of that for applications from citizens of the Russian Federation.
Next deadline for 2013/2014 will be 31 January 2013.
Apply online only. Do not send hard copies of the application or any other documents by e-mail or post.
References
Applicants should provide the names of 2 academic referees and ensure that two letters of reference are sent directly by the referees using the on-line form by the 31 January deadline.
References from current full-time or part-time EUI professors will not be accepted except where the application is from a researcher already registered for an EUI degree (i.e. transfer from LLM to PhD), or where the professor is in a different EUI department from that applied to by the candidate, but who is able to comment on the academic qualities of the candidate.
