Erasmus

The EUI has been part of the Erasmus (European Union Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) exchange programme since 1987 and has  inter-university cooperation agreements with many European universities.

In 2007, Erasmus became part of the EU Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme (formerly, Socrates).

The Erasmus programme is open to nationals of EU Member States and acceding states. If you are a non-EU citizen, check with the Academic Service to see if you are eligible.

Co-operation agreements have been set up with universities for visits of 3-6 months (3 months minimum) and should be in place for the coming academic year (see table below).

Funding

Erasmus is financed by the EU Commission which awards a small amount of money to the EUI for mobility grants to students wishing to visit partner universities.

To receive a grant you must meet all Commission requriements, i.e. sign an Erasmus contract before departure, and submit the Erasmus report and proof of registration from the host university (student card or certificate) on your return.

Failure to do so will mean that you forfeit the grant and/or have to refund any advances received from the EUI.

Application

A written request with a CV, a short description of the proposed research at the host institution, and your supervisor's approval must be submitted to your EUI Department and the Academic Service.

Once accepted by the EUI Admissions Committee, you will have to fill in on-line application forms for the host university and in some cases,  provide letters of reference.

EUI and the host university applications must be submitted well in advance of the deadline.

London School of Economics (LSE)

Researchers applying to LSE must provide a certificate of English proficiency/TOEFL score.

Applications should be for the 'Michaelmas' or 'Lent' terms. Applications are not generally accepted for the summer term.

Researchers from any Department may apply but should note that only 2 LSE Departments have made agreements.
