Interviews

Interviews will take place 22 and 23 March.

Attendance

Attendance at the interview is mandatory.

Towards mid-March, short-listed candidates are invited to attend an interview. They receive an e-mail with interview details (day, place and time). The schedule cannot be changed.

Interviews are held at the EUI. Travel costs are partially reimbursed by the EUI. Travel reimbursement .

Practical information.

The actual interview lasts approximately 30 minutes; the language used for the interviews is usually English. Departmental Panels require candidates to give an oral presentation of their work and interests. There are no written tests set by the departments.

Language Tests

During the interview period, all interviewees, except English native-speakers, sit a compulsory written and oral test in English; this also pertains to those candidates who are already in possession of an English language proficiency certificate.  The outcome does not have a direct impact on the interview result, although the interviewing panel may recommend that the candidate improves his/her language competence before registration.

Each language test takes about 90 minutes and may be taken on the same day of the interview or at any time over the interview period without an appointment.

In cases where candidates need to be proficient in another (more) language(s) for their specific research, short-listed candidates will be informed by the Language Centre of the additional language test(s)

Further details are posted on the website of the Language Centre .

Interview results: admission and reserve lists

Both successful candidates and reserve candidates are informed of the outcome of their interview by e-mail. The final results are known in May. Successful candidates should reply to their offer by a specified date.

The admission offer is only valid for the academic year for which the candidate has applied. Admission cannot be deferred. Successful candidates who wish to register at the EUI for the following academic year must re-submit a full application by the annual deadline.

Reserve candidates will be contacted by the EUI only if a candidate selected for admission withdraws. Reserve candidates are usually contacted during June, but late admissions (July and August) are not uncommon.

The EUI is not in a position to inform reserve candidates about their ranking or their chances of admission.
