- Universities across Europe are questioning the high margins of commercial publishers like Elsevier. While there are a lot of good arguments for publishing articles in open-access, it may be a difficult choice for an early career scholar to do so. EUI members knowledgeable in these areas would like to share their knowledge and would be interested to hear your thoughts! Bring your panino and join us over lunch next Thursday 31st from 1-2 pm in the Emeroteca!

- Yesterday evening the winners of the 3-Minute Ph.D. Competition in the Social Sciences were announced by Prof. Dehousse, president of the EUI. The first prize goes to Matilda Louise Greig (Department of History and Civilization) for her video 'War for Sale in the Nineteenth Century: A study of Peninsular War veterans' memoirs'. The EUI recognizes the outstanding presentation of her thesis by financing the publication of an open-access article. The 2nd prize goes to Ileana Dana Nicolau (Department of Political and Social Sciences) and the 3rd prize to Gaël Sánchez Cano (also from the Department of History and Civilization). The competition invited doctoral candidates of the EUI to present their research topic in a short, three minute video to multiple audiences with no background in that specific research area.
