VPN Remote Connection

Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows you to make a secure remote connection to EUI's private network, that is internal servers/resources, overriding the normal security restrictions (set up for non-EUI members) by authenticating you as an EUI user.

Once you have connected to the EUI's network via VPN, you will be able, amongst others, to access your Personal (G:), Web (W:) and other Shared Areas  [1]  as well as access Library's E-Resources (Journals, Papers, etc.) like if you were connected on campus.

Download, Installation and Configuration

Depending on your Operating System there are different installation files and configuration methods. Please select as appropriate (note that you will be prompted for a valid EUI account in order to download):

If you already have the Cisco VPN Client installed, you can simply add the EUI connection by downloading and importing the below EUI VPN profile into your Cisco VPN Client (menu Connection Entries > Import):

Please Note: VPN Client software is ONLY for use on private PCs: your laptop, home PC or any computer which you have exclusive access. It must NOT be installed on a public PC, at another university or any other organisation (e.g. Internet café).

Using the VPN Client

  1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet (VPN Client does NOT work on campus: you must test it off-campus to see if installation has been successful).

  2. Start Cisco VPN Client.

    348

  3. Click Connect.
  4. Insert your username in the format:

    iuedom\your_EUI_username (e.g. iuedom\jsmith)

    349

  5. If you have successfully logged on to our local network, you will see a "Warning! You are entering a private network" message.

You are now connected to our private network and can access your personal data [1]  and other internal resources as you normally would while on campus.

Please note that access performance depends on the speed of the internet connection used!

[1]  = Please note that this is NOT automatic: if not already done, you will also need to configure the connections to your personal areas  prior to be able to access them.
