Using Outlook 2007 With BPOS in Exchange Mode Without Sign-In Tool

 

The following guide can be used in case the Sign-In Tool fails and/or the operating system (i.e. Windows XP Home) does not support it.

 

Pre-requisites: you must first obtain the server settings by visiting your local Site Office .

 

1. Navigate to the Control Panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel) and click on Mail.

2. Click Show Profiles... and type in an appropriate name for the profile. Click OK.

3. Tick Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.

4. Select Microsoft Exchange and click Next.

5. Enter the server details--(your username should be firstname.lastname@eui.eu)--then  click More Settings.... Note: you should NOT click Check Name at this point.

6. You will receive the following error message: “The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." Click OK.

7. The Check Names dialogue box then appears. Click OK again and it should take you to the Microsoft Exchange settings box (i.e. what you usually get to from More Settings...).

8. Click on the Connection tab. Under Outlook Anywhere tick the box which says Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP.

9. Click on Exchange Proxy Settings.... Under 'Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange' enter:

red002.mail.emea.microsoftonline.com

10. Tick the 'On fast networks...' and 'On slow networks...' boxes and leave Proxy authentication settings as 'NTLM Authentication'.

 

11. Click OK twice to get back to the Add New E-mail Account window and click Next, then Finish.

 

12. Launch Outlook and select the appropriate profile.

13. A “Connect to xxxxxxxx.red002.local” dialogue box should appear--enter “firstname.lastname@eui.eu ” (without domain) and your EUI password.

14. If further “Connect to...” dialogue boxes appear, re-enter the same password. It may happen several times during the setup process. (Note: it may also prompt for the password several times whenever Outlook is started.)
