Remote and Parallel Computing
There are two platforms for remote and parallel computing: the Windows-based Citrix (Remote Computing) and the off-campus, Unix-based CASPUR (Parallel Computing).
The main advantage of working remotely is it will not slow down your PC during the computation therefore there is no need to leave the PC turned on - you collect the results later.
Citrix
Use Citrix if you don't know Unix and prefer a familiar Windows-based environment. Citrix is less powerful than CASPUR but the interface is more user-friendly, i.e. the same software as on EUI PCs. Transferring data is faster than CASPUR as it is hosted internally to the EUI.
CASPUR
Use CASPUR if you need very high computational power. Being based on Unix, CASPUR offers parallel computing and is accessible worldwide. As it is off-campus, accessing and transferring data may take more time depending on Internet/network congestion.
Software Tutoring and Assistance
-
If you require tutoring on software please see the revelvant tutor (please note if you require tutoring on CASPUR or software on CASPUR then you should contact the CASPUR tutor).
