Backup/Restore of User E-Mail

The Computing Service performs daily system backups of the mail servers. In case of server failures involving data loss it will be possible to restore the mail of all users up to the previous working day.

Cancellation of mail is a multi-step process, involving, first, cancellation of a message and then its explicit removal from the Trash or Deleted Items folder, either by the user him or herself or by a program, in which case the user is informed of what has been done. This provides a measure of protection against accidental removal by a user. What's more, even items eliminated from the Deleted Items folder can still be recovered, with the help of the Site Officer, for a period of 16 days afterwards.

Therefore the Computing Service will not restore single or sets of messages cancelled (accidentally or otherwise) by users.
