Supported OS Policy

This document details the support on offer for existing and new Operating Systems (OS) on computers and devices such as tablets, smartphones, etc. at the EUI:

Purpose

To ensure secure and supportable OS software on all computers and devices connected to the EUI network.

Policy

All computers and devices connected to the EUI network MUST run only current edition OS software that is fully supported by their retailers or the open source community (see Supported OS and Devices here below).

Operating systems that have industry-recognized security vulnerabilities and/or that have been officially dropped from supported status by the retailer or manufacturer will NOT be supported and MUST be removed and/or updated to newer versions (wherever applicable).

In order for proper support to be provided by the ICT Service, the Operating System MUST be set to English.

Sanctions

Computers which do not comply with this policy or which fall under the excluded category (see Exclusions above) will be removed from and/or prevented access to the EUI network.

Consequences of Misuse

[1]  = Please note that many other core IT Resources (such as the Web Content Management System, Library Catalogue, Web-Intranet, etc.) are Web-based, and therefore OS independent.

[2]  = Check the specific IT Resources online documentation ( Email , LAN and WiFi , Personal and Shared Network Areas , Printing on Public Network Printers and VPN Remote Connection ) to find out support details for the above-listed operating systems.

[3]  = Although unsupported and/or not yet documented, some IT Resources may work for the listed operating systems. Contact Portable Device Support for up-to-date information and support status. Please be advised that in these cases support is NOT guaranteed and assistance is provided accordinf to "best effort" policy.
