Tethering (Internet sharing) on MS Lumia

This document details how to enable tethering (referred to as Internet sharing) via your service SIM (if applicable). It may be applicable to other Windows Phone models as well.

IMPORTANT: if you are not eligible, you should NOT enable data traffic and/or data roaming on your device in order not to incur in costs. Should this happen, any costs will be charged to you personally.

The below guide has been tested on Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2. Screenshots are taken from Lumia 640 XL thus may slightly differ from other models.

 

 

Pre-requisites

 

Procedure

  1. Go to Settings \ Internet sharing;
  2. For best compatibility, set Share over to WiFi;
  3. Turn Sharing setting ON and take note of the suggested Broadcast name and Password:

Thethering is now enabled. To bridge your devices to your service mobile, follow the below steps:

  1. Turn on WiFi on the device you want to brifge;
  2. Scan for available WiFi networks;
  3. Connect to the network called with the same broadcast name as per step 3);
  4. When prompted, use the password shown in step 3).
