Dean of Graduate Studies

Professor Martin Van Gelderen  (interim) Dean of Graduate Studies.

The Dean of Graduate Studies is responsible for steering and coordinating the structured doctoral programme at the EUI.

The Dean chairs the Admissions Committee , and the Doctoral Programme Committee  (DPC).  He/she also participates in the Executive Committee, the Research Council meetings and the Ethics Committee .

The new Dean of Graduate Studies will be appointed shortly.

Responsibilities

• Steers and coordinates the structured graduate programme.
• Coordinates teaching/supervision activities in consultation with the departments.
• Liaises with the departments to ensure the application of;
  Code of Practice for Doctoral Supervision   
  Academic Rules and Regulations 
  The evaluation of seminar assessment 
  Code of Good Practice in Academic Research 

• Substitutes the Principal, at his request, in matters related to the academic functioning of the Institute, including the Selection Board and Renewal Committees.

• Provides a reference point for researchers with study-related problems in coordination with the Directors of Studies in the departments.
• Promotes an academic environment where doctoral and post-doctoral study complement one another, and where researchers' experience and wellbeing at EUI can be enhanced.  

• Addresses issues of special educational needs of researchers.
