Hiking

Welcome to the EUI Hiking Club.

For the third year in a row we are proud to present an extensive programme, consisting of both one-day and weekend hikes. Our past hikes have taken place all over Tuscany, as well as Sicily, the Alps, Cinque Terre, and Elba. We will be happy to help you organise hikes to all these locations - and more - and welcome you on any other hikes we run.

Hiking is so much more than just walking; we pick fruit, taste wine, bask in the sun, swim in the sea, meet local people, learn about Italian culture, traditions and art, and just enjoy life.

Funding and requirements

The 4B committee refunds up to 50% of the transportation and lodging costs incurred on the agreed weekend hikes to researchers, fellows, exchange students and their partners so hold on to your receipts. The number of places on the weekend hikes are limited, and a deposit is necessary for hotel bookings - signing up is compulsory.

One day hikes take place around Florence and elsewhere in Tuscany, and are self-financed by participants.

Joining

All hikes, maps, descriptions and meeting points for hikes made available in advance on the Hiking Club Collab website - this is the centre for all organisation of hikes, and where you would sign up to go on one.

To join the club and gain access to the Hiking Club Collab website, simply send an email to EUI.hiking@eui.eu  (managed by Anna Kocharaov and Anna Riddell).

Leading a hike

The club is run entirely on a voluntary basis - we want you in our hike leader team!

Joining and leading a hike is easy; we provide information about the route, the meeting point, the transporation and lodging, and will accompany you on the hike. You alone are responsible for any risk resulting from your hiking. The hikes vary in difficulty and terrain - many of the them are easy but please read hike descriptions carefully, get additional information of your own, wear appropriate footwear and bring lots of water.
