Sailing

The EUI sailing club organises 2 day outings along the Tuscan coast with a qualified and experienced skipper. The island of Elba offers chances to see some beautiful scenery; the sailing around the Tuscan archipelago is stunning, and offers some of the best sailing in Italy.

No previous sailing experience is necessary and beginners are welcome. You will be shown the ropes and learn some basic skills; the only two requirements are that you can swim, and have medical cover.

The boat is a Westerly Centaur, an 8 metre sailing yacht. She offers easy handling, stable sailing, a deep, safe cockpit and a brand new engine.

The atmosphere onboard is relaxed, and there is often an opportunity to drop anchor and go for a swim in crystal clear blue waters. The boat is also equipped with a sound system, so bring your ipod - you are welcome to bring a few refreshments as well.

All you need to do is put together a crew of 4 (you and three friends) who are all keen to enjoy some sea and sun on board! The trips are open to all researchers, fellows, staff and partners. The cost is 140 euros per person but thanks to a generous subsidy from 4B, researchers and  fellows get a refund of 50 euros each, which brings the actual cost of the sailing down to 90 euros per person for a two day sailing trip.

* the cost excludes food and fuel which are shared between the crew (about 15 euros per person).

If you would like some more information, or are interested in doing a trip and would like to be added to the mailing list, send an email to Saling@eui.eu . Groups of 4 will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

**Please note that sailing is a weather dependent activity so the intinerary may vary; in case of forecasts of bad weather, trips may be cancelled and/or re-scheduled.
