Enrolling in a course

Who can enrol in a course?


  • Anyone who has the right to an EUI card:
    • Members of the EUI (including visiting researchers, fellows and professors)
    • EUI administrative staff (see Note for administrative staff members below)
    • EUI partners 

Note for administrative staff members


  • Staff members can attend all Language Centre courses together with researchers, with the exception of English. 
  • There are English and French courses for staff only, focusing on language for the workplace. 

Procedure for enrolling in a course


French, German, Italian, or Spanish


  1. Check the timetable to see which courses are offered.
  2. If you are continuing a course, and have already spoken with the teacher, write to the Language Centre Assistant, stating the language and course. 
  3. Italian: If you have never followed courses in Italian at the EUI, fill in the Pre-Enrolment Form.
  4. French, German, or Spanish: if you are a beginner, write to the Language Centre Assistant, stating which language and course you are interested in.
  5. If you are not a beginner, you must sit a placement test. Placement tests are held at the beginning of each term. If you cannot be present on the day of the test, contact the head of each language directly.

English academic skills courses


  1. Check the timetable to see which courses are offered. 
  2. If you are already in departmental academic writing courses or writers' groups you are automatically re-enrolled.
  3. If you are interested in any of the other academic skills courses, write to the Language Centre Assistant, stating the course. 
  4. If you are interested in joining an academic writing course or academic writers' group contact the English Unit directly.
If you are an EUI partner must show your EUI card to the Language Centre Assistant when enrolling in a course. You may send a scanned copy.
 

Cost of courses


  • If you are an LL.M. or Ph.D researcher, courses are free of charge.
  • Other categories may have to pay a fee. To find out whether or not you need to pay, check the List of Categories. The cost of each course is indicated on the Timetable with Fees.

 

All fees must be paid before starting a course. Fees cannot be refunded.
 

 

Procedure for paying fees


 

  1. Download and complete the form for feepayers
  2. Pay the amount due directly to the EUI bank (Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, Badia Fiesolana, Bank Corridor)
    Or pay by credit transfer (IBAN: IT75Z0616002800000069156C00 / BIC: CRFIIT3F)
  3. Take this form plus proof of payment to the Language Secretariat, Convento di San Domenico
    Or scan & email the form to the Language Centre Assistant
    Or send a photocopy by internal mail and an email to the Language Centre Assistant saying you have sent the form
