Add to Calendar 2017-02-23 14:00 2017-02-24 12:15 Europe/Paris Better Regulation: the Scrutiny of EU Policies

In a period of unprecedented crisis for the European project, the EU has the opportunity to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness by focusing on its political priorities and a better use of its financial resources. The evaluation of EU policies’ impact should not be an exercise in itself; it will become more effective if linked to clear political decisions.

The workshop brings together academics, politicians and practitioners in order to discuss how the different facets of EU legislation’s scrutiny could be combined, and how they should be linked to the decision-making process. Scrutiny on the implementation of EU legislation by the Member States should complete the legislative cycle in order to deliver better regulation.

The workshop will focus on two pillars: the implementation of EU legislation and the allocation of resources. An important panel of speakers will include Mario Monti, Former Prime Minister of Italy from 2011 to 2013 and Corina Cretu, Commissioner for Regional Policy.

It concludes a cycle of workshops started in 2015 on the reform of the EU’s own resources, and the effectiveness and efficiency of the EU Budget.
