The School of Law at the University of Portsmouth and the European University Institute (EUI) are organising a 2-day international conference on “Human Dignity and the Constitutional Crisis in Europe: Humanity, Democracy, Social Europe".

The conference aims to reflect on the relationship between human dignity and European constitutional democracy, in view of the multiple crises Europe is currently facing. Contributors will be considering whether a renewed commitment to human dignity can perhaps inspire a (partial) solution to some of these crises or whether, in light of its contested nature, it may in fact serve as a rhetorical device to ostensibly legitimise regressive policies and laws.
The conference will bring together leading legal scholars and early career academics. It will feature keynote addresses by Professor András Sajó and Professor Dieter Grimm.

To register please contact Agnieszka.Lempart@EUI.eu
Places will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis.

Prior to our two-day conference, a round table discussion on the refugee crisis in Europe is organised (Wednesday 14th June, 11:30-13:00, Sala del Capitolo, Badia Fiesolana). For more information please consult our website.
