EU Integration and Diverging Pathways Away from the Periphery in Europe

Dates:
  • Fri 21 Nov 2014 09.00 - 18.00
  • Sat 22 Nov 2014 09.00 - 16.00
Add to Calendar 2014-11-21 9:00 2014-11-22 16:00 Europe/Paris EU Integration and Diverging Pathways Away from the Periphery in Europe

The conference brings together students of the political economy of European integration with researchers exploring developmental pathways away from the peripheries in Europe. The goal is to discuss the factors that could account for the differences in EU strategies in integrating its Southern and Eastern peripheries and the ways these differences in EU strategies could have influenced developmental pathways in these two peripheries. Second, the conference wants to put the discussion of the diverging EU integration strategies and the patterned variation in developmental strategies between the two regions in the framework of the broader debate on pathways away from the periphery in other parts of the world. Finally, the third goal of the conference is to explore what, if any, lessons could be drawn from the integration of the East in finding a longer term solution to the (re) integration of the Southern member states which were hit by the present crisis harder.
