The Finance, Innovation and Business Regulation Working Group hosts a discussion with Professor Virginijus Bitė (Mykolas Romeris University) on company law of Baltic States.

Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania often share a common history and culture. Their laws, including company law, exhibit similarities, although there are also significant differences. One notable aspect across all three Baltic states is the continuous modernisation of national company law, caused not only by the need to harmonise national law with EU legislation, but also by the search for original solutions. They affect various aspects including the formation and maintenance of capital in private companies, the empowerment of shareholders, and the utilisation of technologies in corporate governance. Through these changes, the Baltic states have demonstrated a creative approach to regulating corporate relations. This presentation will present the company regulation models chosen by the Baltic States, the main characteristics of company forms, and also delve into the recent developments, contextualising them within the previous regulatory landscape.

Prof. Dr. Virginijus Bite is a director of the Private Law Institute at Law School, Mykolas Romeris University, as well as director of the joint master programme 'European and International Business Law', and chairman of the Doctoral Committee in the Field of Law. He conducts research in the field of commercial and company law, especially on regulation of private companies, duties and liability of directors, and rights of shareholders. He is a member of editorial board of European Company Case Law. He is also a legal practitioner since 2004.
