The recently published Research Handbook on Soft Law, edited by Mariolina Eliantonio, Emilia Korkea-aho and Ulrika Mörth, is a rich and comprehensive exploration of the soft law phenomenon from a multiplicity of points of view. The book brings together contributions by leading scholars from a range of different disciplines, and it pivots around four fundamental questions: How has the notion of soft la evolved over the years? How do different disciplines understand the notion and function of soft law? What is the role of institutional and private actors with respect to soft law? And what is soft law’s role in tackling current global societal challenges?
During the presentation, two of the editors and four of the contributors to the book, together with two PhD researcher discussants from the EUI, will engage in a reflection on the nature and function of soft law starting from their own contributions. The audience is warmly invited to participate in the conversation.
The event is divided in two panels: the first panel will present the book in its ensemble and engage in a reflection on the nature of soft law. The second panel will explore the role of soft law in two specific fields: better regulation and climate law.
