GEOSMINE (Geography of Social Mobility in Europe) - The Geography of Social Mobility in Europe: Mapping territorial variations in social mobility between and within EU countries

This project will document how the chances of upward mobility by children from disadvantaged families differs between and within European countries.

Where are the most and least socially mobile places in Europe? Amidst rising public and political concern over stalling social mobility, the GEOSMINE (Geography of Social Mobility in Europe) project will document how the chances of upward mobility by children from disadvantaged families differs between and within European countries. Building on new insights in social stratification and economics research and on John Rawls ’Theory of Distributive Justice', the project will sow the seeds for fruitful policy discussions and the construction of an EU atlas of intergenerational mobility to be based at the EUI.
