Biography

Professor of History of Post-War European Cooperation and Integration

Federico Romero joined the History Department in 2010 as Chair in History of Post-War European Cooperation and Integration. He served as Head of Department (2012-15) and Dean of Research (2019-2021). Before joining EUI he taught at the London School of Economics, the College of Europe, the University of Bologna and the University of Firenze. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Yale University, Columbia University and the University of New Mexico.
A specialist on 20th Century international and transnational history, he researched various aspects of the Cold War and trans-Atlantic relations, particularly the Marshall Plan and post-war European reconstruction, migration and European integration, Italy’s place in Europe and the Atlantic world.
From 2015 to 2020 he directed the ERC Advanced Project “Looking West: the European Socialist regimes facing pan-European cooperation and the European Community (PANEUR1970S).
