Doctoral Research

The Department of History and Civilization offers a distinctive programme of transnational and comparative European history. Study and research activities are structured in a four-year Ph.D. programme based on a combination of course-work and intense research activity.

In the first year doctoral researchers focus on the in-depth exploration of selected central themes of European history. In the second, third and fourth years, researchers pursue their individual research to submit their dissertation within the fourth year of their doctoral studies as the basis for the conferral of the Ph.D.

The EUI Publications Repository, Cadmus keeps record of all Ph.D. theses defended at the Institute. Hard copies of the theses can be consulted at the EUI Library.
