Organised by Prof. Pavel Kolár and Prof. Pieter M. Judson
Tuesdays 17:10-19:00, Sala Belvedere
Admin. Assistant: Francesca Parenti
Starts on 12 January 2016

Seminar description

The training seminar is a hands-on experience that offers first-year researchers the opportunity to introduce their work for group discussion and feedback. The seminar introduces them to the practicalities of historical research by discussing how to define a research agenda, how to formulate research questions and hypotheses in dialogue with the sources, how to use archival and other primary sources, the appropriate methods for using different types of source-material, the evaluation of  existing historiography, and the structuring of analyses and of larger narratives. Above all, the training seminar offers first-year researchers a forum in which they can present their sources, hypotheses and ideas to their peers and to the professors leading the seminar in order to obtain critical feedback for the presentation of their March and June papers.
