Academic activities in Autumn 2020

Research and Teaching

All seminars are going to take place onsite at Villa Salviati. If a researcher, due to force majeure reasons only, is not able to be physically present in Florence from the beginning of the academic year, a hybrid solution will be arranged to allow them to follow the teaching remotely. All other activities, such as meetings, working groups and workshops are also scheduled to take place onsite. Events with external speakers may go online depending on specific circumstances and feasibility.

September programme

Due to the Covid-19 emergency, many of the usual welcome activities in September will be moved online.See the profile of the faculty members online. Short interviews of professors and fellows will also be broadcasted on the EUI community radio Radio Cavolo and posted on the departmental Twitter account EUI_History

A full calendar of the EUI September Programme can be found online. The Department of History and Civilization in particular will organize the following:

 

Tuesday 1 September

9:00-11:30, in the courtyard of Villa Salviati

First-Year PhD Researchers pick up the registration pack and EUI card (by appointment)

Friday 25 September

14:30-15:30, in Sala del Consiglio at Villa Salviati

First-Year PhD Researchers meet the Head of Department (Prof. R. Grafe), the Director of Graduate Studies (Prof. L. Riall) and the Administrative Coordinator (Ms A. Coda).

Some faculty members will join the group during drinks served after the meeting

Wednesday 30 September

10:30-12:30 and 14:30-16:30 in Sala degli Stemmi at Villa Salviati

First-Year PhD Researchers meet the faculty members in small groups.

When they are not busy in these meetings, faculty members will meet their provisional supervisees independently (by appointment) 

Thursday 1 October

10:30-12:30 and 14:30-16:30 in Sala degli Stemmi at Villa Salviati

First-Year PhD Researchers meet the faculty members in small groups.

Friday 2 October

The Max Weber Fellows meet the faculty members in small groups

Monday 5 October

12:30 -14:00 in the gardens of Villa Salviati

Departmental picnic for all newcomers.
