Short Bio

Professor Rasmus Hoffmann holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Rostock (Germany), an MA in Sociology, Biology and French from the University of Freiburg (Germany) and a licence in Sociology from the University René Descartes in Paris (France). His PhD research on socioeconomic differences in old age mortality was performed from 2002 to 2006 at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock. In 2014, his habilitation on "International Comparative Research on Health" was accepted by the University of Rostock.From 2004 to 2008, he was a research scientist at the University of Rostock, then a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (2008-2009), and from 2009-2015 a senior researcher at the Department of Public Health, Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam where he worked in several EU-projects on health inequality and policy evaluation. In February 2013, he started a project (funded by a starting grant of the European Research Council) on the causal relation between health and socioeconomic status that is hosted at the EUI where he is a part-time professor.

Research fields: Socioeconomic status and health, social differences and health, population health.
