Description

This course offers a way into the literature and possible angles of inquiry into the nascent field of study of legal mobilisation in Europe, especially when it has multinational or even transnational dimensions.  The first two sessions set the foundations by contrasting mobilisation with other ways of studying law, considering the borders between mobilisation and legal mobilisation, and the different angles one can take to the study of legal mobilisation. We then consider examples that illustrate the range of possible venues and actors in Europe as a basis for considering how one might approach the study of legal mobilisation in Europe. One seminar will focus on mobilising for people in Europe (looking at examples such as status discrimination and the gig economy). Another will focus on mobilisation for the environment in Europe. Importantly, Europe is a key location for legal mobilisation to effect change for people and places outside Europe and we consider interesting examples of this in our last seminar.
