2. EDUCATIONAL
  • September 1979: graduated with a Licence en Histoire Contemporaine (M.A. in Contemporary History) graded "Grande Distinction" (average marks 16/20), from the Free University of Brussels, (ULB). Thesis subject: transmission of news coming out of revolutionary Russia in 1917-1918 in France, Belgium and Britain; supervisor Prof. Jean Stengers.

  • 1982: History teaching degree from the University of Brussels: Agrégation de l'enseignement secondaire supérieur.

  • January 1985: graduated Doctor of History and Civilization of the European University Institute, Florence (Ph.D.), with a doctoral thesis entitled: Biographie de Nicola Bombacci, du réformisme au révolutionnarisme, 1879-1924, Florence, European University Institute, 4 volumes, 1425 pages. The Thesis Examining Board consisted of the following professors: Renzo De Felice, Roberto Vivarelli, Stuart J.Woolf, Peter Hertner and Jean Stengers.

  • September 1989: graduated Docteur en Philosophie et Lettres, Belgian legal title equivalent to the Italian research doctorate, following examination by professors of 3 Universities, Brussels, (ULB), Liège (UL), and Louvain (UCL), of the EUI Doctoral Thesis.

  • February 1985 to date: History Departmental Assistant in the EUI Library (grade A7/A8) from 1985 to 1990, and since then to date, Library Subject Specialist in History or History Librarian and, more recently, History Information Specialist, (grade AST09) in the Library of the European University Institute, Florence. Duties: assisting EUI doctoral candidates, post-doctotral fellows and professors in history to access information and documentation; digital history teaching classes (Atelier Multimédia); maintenance of a Guide to History Resources; selection, acquisition and classification of library documents: books (chiefly historiography in all European languages), periodicals, online databases and digital materials, reference works; web pages and web sites management (EUI Library webmaster from 1995 to 1999, and currently author of the reference pages for history and of the history projects: European History Primary Sources and WWW VL History).

  • 1996-1998, Temporary Professor (contract) at the Political Science Faculty, University of Urbino, Italy, course on Comparative history of electoral systems in Europe, XIX-XX centuries.

6. ACTIVITIES
  • 1987-1988, Member of "EUI Library Working Group to promote knowledge and better organization of use of technologies and their impact on staff training", directed by EUI Secretary General Marcello Buzzonetti, with an eye to appointment of new Librarian; presentation of an internal document on study of the history collection of the EUI Library, with a plan for acquisition procedures, written in French.

  • 1987-1989, Research for the CNR (Centro Nazionale per la Ricerca) at the Florence "Cesare Alfieri" Political Science Faculty under the leadership of Professor Giorgio Petracchi: cataloguing all the primary sources for the history of Russia and the USSR available from the Archives of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Rome, 1919-1950 with  long periods  of permanence at the ASMAE  (Archivio Storico del Ministero degli Affari Esteri). The primary sources colelcted were used in the book written by Giorgio Petracchi : Da San Pietroburgo a Mosca : La diplomazia italiana in Russia 1861-1941, Roma : Bonacci, 1993.

  • 1991, Research for ISPI (Istituto di Politica Internazionale), Milan, later published by the EUI, 1991, on Main bibliographical and text databases available to scholars of comparative and international politics.

  • August 1991, Participation as lecturer in the Summer School for postgraduates in Contemporary History organized by the Instituto Ortega Y Gasset, Madrid, at the University of Alicante, with lectures on: The crisis of the Italian liberal regime and others on The introduction of Universal Suffrage and the proportional system between 1912 and 1919.

  • 1990-1991, Produced a bibliography of the titles in "Women's studies" held by the EUI Library, for Prof. Gisela Bock and the EUI History Department.
