Her research focuses on the history of international institutions with an emphasis on Europe. Madeleine’s doctoral dissertation, ‘World Economy and World War: European Trade Politics, 1900-1930,’ traced the emergence of competing models of international economic order during and after the First World War. She is currently developing a new research project examining tensions between free trade and labor mobility in the League of Nations.
