Takuya Onoda obtained his PhD in Political Science from the London School of Economics in 2019. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law and political science from the University of Tokyo and has visiting experience at Sciences Po.

Takuya’s research is in the fields of comparative public policy and comparative politics, with particular interests in the state, regulatory politics, and health and social policies. He currently studies how regulatory reforms have changed the role of the state and its relations with society. By comparing pharmaceutical regulation in Europe, he examines the drivers of policy development after regulatory reforms. As a Max Weber Fellow, he plans to develop a book manuscript and journal articles on regulatory politics in Europe and Japan.

Another line of his research concerns European integration and EU policy, especially in the domains of social and industrial policies.

Takuya has taught undergraduate and master’s level courses on comparative public policy, comparative politics, and comparative political economy.
