Stylianos (Stelios) Tsiaras is a macroeconomist working on monetary policy and macro-finance issues using quantitative macroeconomic tools. Most notably, his research focuses on the post crisis non-standard monetary policy practices of the European Central Bank and to what extent they affected the real economy, banking activity and inequality in the Euro Area.

Stelios obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Surrey in 2019 supervised by Martin Kaae Jensen and Tom Holden. He holds an MSc degree from the Barcelona GSE. He has also been a PhD research scholar at the Bank of Greece.

His research agenda during the Max Weber Fellowship includes work on macroeconomic models with heterogeneous agents and new policies that could downplay the impact of financial crises on households’ welfare. He also participates in a project focused on new mechanisms that would enhance Euro Area integration and economic stabilization.

During his PhD studies he taught undergraduate courses on microeconomics and macroeconomics and, at postgraduate level, econometrics and finance.
