Data description

The Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is an American longitudinal household survey with a sample of over 18,000 individuals in 5,000 households. Observations from 1968 to 2020 cover employment, income, wealth, expenditures, health, marriage, childbearing, child development, philanthropy, education and related topics. PSID is undertaken at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research.

How to access data

EUI users can either (i) download data directly from the PSID site, or (ii) request ICPSR-archived PSID files via [email protected]

(i) Downloading directly from the PSID site:

• Complete the registration procedures on the PSID site
• Create custom sub-sets via the Data Center website, selecting required variables, or
• Download complete files via the PSID zips directory.

(ii) Requesting PSID data hosted by ICPSR:

• Locate the required data Study Number(s) in the ICPSR data catalogue
• Send the Study Number(s) by e-mail to [email protected] indicating the format in which the data is required (Stata, ASCII, &c.)
• Users should read the University of Michigan's ICPSR Responsible Use statement.
