Question: How has your EUI experience, so far, changed you?
Answer: Academically, my first year changed me from a student to a researcher. By this, I mean that I received extensive training in academic writing, analytical thinking, presentation skills and research methods. Optional seminars allowed me to further specialise my interests. Altogether, that year prepared me to initiate the substantial research for my dissertation.
On a personal level, I have met interesting people, and become better acquainted with the Italian language, culture, food and wine. The first year at the EUI is time consuming but there is still enough time to have fun with friends and to explore the city, region and country at large.
The EUI is a dynamic research institution. Innovativeness is encouraged and you have a high degree of independence. I would encourage new researchers to take advantage of this, trust themselves, and use the academic freedom that the EUI offers to explore uncharted territory in their research.
