Partnership with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva

Posted on 14 March 2018

The European University Institute (EUI) has signed a strategic collaboration with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), Geneva, an institution of research and higher education dedicated to the study of world affairs.

As part of the agreement, workshops and conferences on topics such as governance and migration will be organised in Geneva and Florence, and professors will be encouraged to elaborate joint research projects. The partners will also fund a two-year postdoctoral fellowship programme aimed at post-doctoral candidates who are within 5 years from the completion of their PhD, but who do not hold a tenured or a tenure-track position in a university, to strengthen their academic portfolio. Candidates must apply to the Max Weber Fellowship Programme at the EUI. They will spend their first year in Florence and the selected candidate will then spend one year at the Graduate Institute.

The collaboration reflects the two institutions’ many common features (disciplines, research thematics, etc) and long history of informal links. Located in the heart of International Geneva, the Graduate Institute is the oldest institution in the world entirely dedicated to the study of internationals issues. Thanks to its professors and doctoral students, to the research centres created with the University of Geneva and to the density of knowledge found in Maison de la paix and International Geneva, it offers a unique density of expertise on the challenges of globalisation.
