Eurodeputati ed ex Presidenti intervengono alla conferenza organizzata dagli Archivi storici dell’Unione europea per celebrare i 40 anni dalle prime elezioni dirette del Parlamento europeo

In occasione dei 40 anni dalle prime elezioni dirette del Parlamento europeo, gli Archivi storici dell’Unione europea organizzano la conferenza "40 years of European Parliament Direct Elections", che avrà luogo giovedì 22 e venerdì 23 Novembre 2018 nella Sala ‘Refettorio’ dell’Istituto Universitario Europeo, alla Badia Fiesolana.

 


MEPs and former Presidents to speak at the conference organised by the Historical Archives of the European Union to celebrate 40 years from the first direct elections to the European Parliament

Ahead of the vote in May 2019, the Historical Archives of the European Union are organising the conference "40 Years of European Parliament Direct Elections", taking place on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 November 2018 in the ‘Refettorio’ of the European University Institute, at the Badia Fiesolana.

L’Italia mette a disposizione dell’Istituto Universitario Europeo il Palazzo Buontalenti a Firenze

Venerdì 19 ottobre, il Sottosegretario al Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, On. Guglielmo Picchi, ha visitato l’Istituto Universitario Europeo (IUE) per firmare l’Addendum all’accordo di sede Italia/IUE. L’Addendum aggiunge Palazzo Buontalenti, edificio storico situato nel centro della città di Firenze, al campus IUE.

 

Italy grants European University Institute use of Palazzo Buontalenti in Florence, Italy

Italy's Undersecretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Guglielmo Picchi, visited the Institute on Friday 19 October to sign an addendum to the Site Agreement held between Italy and the Institute. The addendum adds Palazzo Buontalenti, an historic building located in the centre of Florence, to the EUI's campus.

EUI RESPONDS TO THE PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON THE NEXT EU RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PROGRAMME

On Thursday 7 June the European Commission will publish its proposals for the new EU Research and Innovation programme (FP9), an important component of the next EU Budget. The European University Institute has released a position paper addressing ‘The Dynamics of Change in Europe’ in response to the European Commission’s invitation to contribute to the public consultation on the next EU Research and Innovation programme.

EXHIBITION "IMMAGINEMEMORIA. ARCHIVIO DI UN'EUROPA IN COSTRUZIONE"

On Thursday 5 April the European University Institute will inaugurate the exhibition "ImmagineMemoria. Archivio di un’Europa in costruzione" at the Archivio di Stato di Firenze (Viale della Giovine Italia, 6 – 50122, Florence). The exhibition will present audio and video materials collected by the research project “Bodies Across Borders: Oral and Visual Memories in Europe and Beyond (BABE)” in collaboration with the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) and the State Archive in Florence during five years of field research on the theme of memories of migration in Europe.

LAUNCH OF MONITOR: GLOBAL INTELLIGENCE ON RACISM, THE WORLD’S FIRST ONLINE MAGAZINE BRINGING EXPERTISE ON RACISM TO PUBLIC DEBATE

Today the online magazine MONITOR: Global Intelligence on Racism launches at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. It will bring together NGOs, museums, and policymakers with academics to showcase the latest research and initiatives on and about racism from around the globe. A multi-media magazine, MONITOR is open access, and aims to be the go-to source for research-based public debate on racism.

PRESS RELEASE: A ‘PIONEER’ OF EUROPEAN EDUCATION

The EUI School of Transnational Governance is part of the Commission’s 2025 education agenda. The European University Institute’s School of Transnational Governance (STG) has been named as part of the Commission’s plan to create a European Education Area by 2025. In a White Paper and accompanying op-ed by Jean-Claude Juncker and Tibor Navracsics released during the social summit in Gothenburg this weekend, the Commission supported the establishment of the School of Transnational Governance as a ‘pioneer’ of European universities.

JEAN PISANI-FERRY JOINS EUI FACULTY

The European University Institute (EUI) is delighted to announce that Jean Pisani-Ferry joined the faculty at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) as of 1 October. Pisani-Ferry will hold the Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa Chair in European Economic and Monetary Integration. An economist and public policy expert, Jean Pisani-Ferry was most recently the Director for Programme and Ideas of Emmanuel Macron’s presidential campaign.

EUROPEAN FORECASTING NETWORK (EFN) PUBLISHES AUTUMN REPORT

The European Forecasting Network's autumn 2017 report provides an up-to-date economic outlook for 2017 and 2018.

This issue of the report details the broad-based expansion of the world economy, the low consumer price inflation, the moderation of global growth and the upswing in the euro area economy in summer 2017. It also provides forecasts for the remainder of 2017 and 2018.

The European Forecasting Network (EFN) is a research group of European institutions, founded under the auspices of the European Commission, and currently partly financially supported by the EUI. Coordinated by economist Massimiliano Marcellino, the EFN provides a critical analysis of the current economic situation in the euro area, short-term forecasts of the main macroeconomic and financial variables, policy advice, and research concerning EMU.

EFN reports are published quarterly.

EUROPE IN THE ARCHIVES, EUROPE IN THE FUTURE

On Thursday 12 and Friday 13 Ocotber, The Historical Archives of the European Union and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies hosted the Europe in the Archives, Europe in the Future Conference, organised by the Academic Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES) in collaboration with the European University Institute. The Conference brought together both academics and archivists to examine the last 50 years of European Studies and UK-EU relations. This event marked the 50th anniversary of the UACES as the UK hub for European studies.

La Lectio Magistralis del Commissario europeo Europeo per la Ricerca, la Scienza e l'Innovazione, Carlos Moedas, sul tema “Scienze e Politiche dell’Innovazione: il ruolo dell’UE” ha segnalato l'inizio delle attività della School of Transnational Governance dell’Istituto Universitario europeo, che nasce con l’intento di studiare, discutere ed insegnare teorie e pratiche di governance che vadano oltre il singolo Stato nazionale, con l’obiettivo di prendere spunto dall’esperienza transnazionale europea per poter poi rapportarsi ad altre aree del globo.

Gli Archivi Storici dell’Unione Europea e l’Ufficio d’Informazione in Italia del Parlamento europeo sono lieti di invitare i giornalisti alla cerimonia nazionale di consegna del  Premio Cittadino europeo 2017, che si svolgerà a Firenze il prossimo venerdì 22 settembre, dalle ore 10.30 alle ore 13.30, presso gli Archivi Storici dell’Unione Europea.

EUI CONCERN FOR FUTURE OF CENTRAL EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY

SOUTH AFRICAN AMBASSADOR AND MUSICIANS WELCOMED AT THE EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE

On Saturday 25 June the EUI welcomed a group of young South African musicians to perform for an international audience under the instruction and direction of Berthine van Schoor, one of South Africa’s finest cellists. The South African Ambassador to Italy, Nomatemba Tambo, visited the EUI on the occasion.

BULGARIA BECOMES 22nd CONTRACTING STATE TO THE EUI

The European University Institute is proud to announce that Bulgaria officially became a member of the EUI on 3 June, making it the 22nd contracting state of the Institute. The Bulgarian flag was raised during a ceremony at the Badia Fiesolana, organized in the framework of the meeting of the High Council, before a crowd of delegates, academics and members of the EUI.

STUDY ON THE CALCULATION OF INTEREST ON ANTITRUST DAMAGES

The EUI Law Department has released a study on the calculation of interest on damages resulting from antitrust infringements. This study samples 13 national laws and assesses how far they are consistent with the requirements to be found in EU law.

The EUI hosts the final conference of the ITHACA project, studying transnational mobility patterns among third country nationals that are settled in an EUcountry, with a focus on how their level of social and economic integration affects their propensity to bephysically mobile between their country of origin and their country of settlement.

STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS CONDEMNS EUROPE’S RESPONSE TO MIGRATION

In his State of the Union Address delivered at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Professor Martin Scheinin condemned Europe’s “military response” to the Mediterranean migrant crisis, describing it as an idea “out of this world”. Scheinin’s words come after reports that more than 5000 migrants were rescued over last weekend by the Italian coastguard.
