L’Italia mette a disposizione dell’Istituto Universitario Europeo il Palazzo Buontalenti a Firenze

Venerdì 19 ottobre, il Sottosegretario al Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, On. Guglielmo Picchi, ha visitato l’Istituto Universitario Europeo (IUE) per firmare l’Addendum all’accordo di sede Italia/IUE. L’Addendum aggiunge Palazzo Buontalenti, edificio storico situato nel centro della città di Firenze, al campus IUE.

Italy's Undersecretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Guglielmo Picchi, visited the Institute on Friday 19 October to sign an addendum to the Site Agreement held between Italy and the Institute. The addendum adds Palazzo Buontalenti, an historic building located in the centre of Florence, to the EUI's campus.

EUI Department of History Professor Lucy Riall has just been elected to the British Academy in recognition of her work in the humanities and social sciences.

MALTA BECOMES 23RD CONTRACTING STATE TO THE EUI

The European University Institute is proud to announce that Malta officially became a member of the EUI on 8 June, making it the 23^rd contracting state of the Institute.

EUI RESPONDS TO THE PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON THE NEXT EU RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PROGRAMME

On Thursday 7 June the European Commission will publish its proposals for the new EU Research and Innovation programme (FP9), an important component of the next EU Budget. The European University Institute has released a position paper addressing ‘The Dynamics of Change in Europe’ in response to the European Commission’s invitation to contribute to the public consultation on the next EU Research and Innovation programme.  

EXHIBITION "IMMAGINEMEMORIA. ARCHIVIO DI UN'EUROPA IN COSTRUZIONE"

On Thursday 5 April the European University Institute will inaugurate the exhibition "ImmagineMemoria. Archivio di un’Europa in costruzione" at the Archivio di Stato di Firenze (Viale della Giovine Italia, 6 – 50122, Florence). The exhibition will present audio and video materials collected by the research project “Bodies Across Borders: Oral and Visual Memories in Europe and Beyond (BABE)” in collaboration with the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) and the State Archive in Florence during five years of field research on the theme of memories of migration in Europe.

LAUNCH OF MONITOR: GLOBAL INTELLIGENCE ON RACISM, THE WORLD’S FIRST ONLINE MAGAZINE BRINGING EXPERTISE ON RACISM TO PUBLIC DEBATE

PRESS RELEASE: A ‘PIONEER’ OF EUROPEAN EDUCATION

The EUI School of Transnational Governance is part of the Commission’s 2025 education agenda. The European University Institute’s School of Transnational Governance (STG) has been named as part of the Commission’s plan to create a European Education Area by 2025. In a White Paper and accompanying op-ed by Jean-Claude Juncker and Tibor Navracsics released during the social summit in Gothenburg this weekend, the Commission supported the establishment of the School of Transnational Governance as a ‘pioneer’ of European universities.

JEAN PISANI-FERRY JOINS EUI FACULTY

The European University Institute (EUI) is delighted to announce that Jean Pisani-Ferry joined the faculty at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) as of 1 October. Pisani-Ferry will hold the Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa Chair in European Economic and Monetary Integration. An economist and public policy expert, Jean Pisani-Ferry was most recently the Director for Programme and Ideas of Emmanuel Macron’s presidential campaign.

This issue of the report details the broad-based expansion of the world economy, the low consumer price inflation, the moderation of global growth and the upswing in the euro area economy in summer 2017. It also provides forecasts for the remainder of 2017 and 2018.

The European Forecasting Network (EFN) is a research group of European institutions, founded under the auspices of the European Commission, and currently partly financially supported by the EUI. Coordinated by economist Massimiliano Marcellino, the EFN provides a critical analysis of the current economic situation in the euro area, short-term forecasts of the main macroeconomic and financial variables, policy advice, and research concerning EMU.

EFN reports are published quarterly.

EUROPE IN THE ARCHIVES, EUROPE IN THE FUTURE

On Thursday 12 and Friday 13 Ocotber, The Historical Archives of the European Union and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies hosted the Europe in the Archives, Europe in the Future Conference, organised by the Academic Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES) in collaboration with the European University Institute. The Conference brought together both academics and archivists to examine the last 50 years of European Studies and UK-EU relations. This event marked the 50^th anniversary of the UACES as the UK hub for European studies.

SOUTH AFRICAN AMBASSADOR AND MUSICIANS WELCOMED AT THE EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE

STUDY ON THE CALCULATION OF INTEREST ON ANTITRUST DAMAGES

The EUI Law Department has released a study on the calculation of interest on damages resulting from antitrust infringements. This study samples 13 national laws and assesses how far they are consistent with the requirements to be found in EU law.

STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS CONDEMNS EUROPE’S RESPONSE TO MIGRATION
