Yoga (Ashtanga)

Ashtanga 3

ASHTANGA

Astanga is the Yoga of Breath. An ancient Yoga method, Astanga focuses on the harmonization of the movement of your body with your breath. Following a precise sequence of progressing asanas (postures), you will learn to control and deepen breath which will help the mind to become calm and concentrated. Astanga allows you to create strength and flexibility in your body and clarity in your mind.

It is “1 percent theory and 99 percent practice”, as Sri K. Pattabhi Jois described it. Our classes will introduce you to this practice. Step by step we will explore the sequences of postures and the breathing technique. You will sweat and improve your fitness, but the real scope is to create an overall balance - to feel comfortable in our bodies while at peace with ourselves and others. You can depart from whatever you think your level of flexibility and fitness is. Classes are equally suited to develop your practice further if you have already Astanga experience.

Astanga views each students as unique and the practice, while following the traditional sequence, will be adapted to the individual. Anyone can learn the Astanga method who wants it. All you need is motivation.
