What do I have to do to participate in the Writers' Lab?
The Writers' Lab is not a course. Anyone who needs to write can participate.
You need to sign up for the Virtual Writers' Lab (Use the Enrol now button above). We will then send you an invitation to enter the ZoomRoom. The Writers' Lab begins again in January.
There is no obligation to come every week. However, the most productive academic writers are, they say, those that make writing a habit (see, for example: Boice 2000; Krashen 2002; Belcher 2009).
Do you want to make a commitment? One way of creating habits is by creating an outside commitment, so we suggest you commit to coming along by making a pact with a friend/colleague/partner or by signing up with Nicola Hargreaves. Put 'Writers Lab Commitment' in the subject line.
Make this a weekly occurence dedicated to your writing.
You will receive a reminder email every Monday and Thursday, including the Zoom link for the following day, different each time.
What do I need to bring to the Writers' Lab?
Bring your laptop.
Bring any texts you need.
Make sure you have a comfortable place to sit or stand while you work.
Bring a thermos or change for the coffee machine, or, in this new virtual world, your own cup from your own kitchen.
Bring determination to write.
Turn off your emails, messages, social media for the duration of the Writers' Lab. Or, at the very least, turn off the notifications, and only check them during the long break.
