Investigating EU Law as a Way of Life (one day workshop)

Dates:
  • Tue 20 Feb 2018 09.30 - 16.30
Add to Calendar 2018-02-20 9:30 2018-02-20 16:30 Europe/Paris Investigating EU Law as a Way of Life (one day workshop)

3 credits European integration is usually conceived as an institutional project – a mode of regulating a set of economic and social activities. We suggest that it may also be seen as an existential challenge – a way to structure or deconstruct modes of existence and modes of coexistence. How do we grasp existential Europe? How do we explore the social practices, individual dispositions, sentiments and beliefs lying behind the institutional façade of the European Union’s crises? This seminar will address these questions by understanding EU Law as one of many nested social practices which forms our lives in Europe. In this seminar, we will seek to examine the ways in which EU law shapes and interconnects with, for instance, migrant, nationalist or capitalist forms of life in Europe. This will be done by presenting contemporary thinkers inspiring our approach on forms of life and link it to a discussion on our in-progress analysis of EU law. This seminar is part of a broader project called FOLIE. Forms of Life and Legal Integration in Europe run at Sciences Po Paris (http://www.sciencespo.fr/folie/)
