Transnational Governance?

Dates:
  • Mon 13 Nov 2017 13.30 - 17.30
  • Tue 14 Nov 2017 09.00 - 18.00
  Add to Calendar 2017-11-13 13:30 2017-11-14 18:00 Europe/Paris Transnational Governance?

What is transnational governance? Does it exist? Does it work? Where does it apply? How does it differ from other forms of governance? These are questions we intend to address during this exploratory workshop organised by the new School of Transnational Governance in Florence, which launched at the European University Institute in September 2017. With a focus on the study, policy debate and teaching of governance beyond the state, the School aims to deliver teaching and high level training on the concepts, methods and practice of transnational governance. The goal of the workshop is to reflect on this aim, and discuss ways to achieving it.

The approach of the workshop is exploratory. We invite senior and junior experts from a variety of disciplines to report on their research findings on patterns and trends in governance beyond the state, either globally or within specific regions or policy domains. Workshop participants, including the first cohort of fellows in the School’s Young Policy Leaders programme, will then discuss collectively whether and to what extent these findings reflect instances of transnational governance, and what conceptual and empirical implications this has.

The aim of the workshop is to enhance our understanding of transnational governance conceptually and empirically. This in turn may facilitate curriculum development for the School of Transnational Governance and provide the basis for further cooperation in research, teaching, or both.
