On 4th March Italian voters will elect a new parliament. After a campaign dominated by the immigration issue, the polls foresee favourable results for both the radical-right (once Northern) League and the populist Five Star Movement. The Renzi-led Democratic Party, still recovering from the rejected constitutional referendum, has failed to capitalise on the economic recovery. Meanwhile, Berlusconi has stormed back into Italian politics and could be a pivotal actor in the post-election period. None is expected to obtain a clear majority to form a government. Five years after the 2013 electoral earthquake, Italian politics is again in disarray.
