On Saturday, 14 April 2018, the United States, France, and the United Kingdom conducted joint air strikes on Syrian territory as a reaction to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma. In the context of increased tensions between the West and Russia, many observers feared that such strikes might lead to further escalation – especially if Western and Russian troops were to clash directly. In the absence of such a direct confrontation, many are puzzled about the meaning of these air strikes for world politics and the situation in Syria.

This roundtable brings together experts on the Syrian civil war, international law, and international security policies to discuss the possible implications of the recent events.
