To mark the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the presentation of the Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in February 1998, the School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute has decided to bring together a number of policy makers and scholars for a High Level Policy Dialogue.

Building on numerous events that have been organised to celebrate what has become the main international normative framework for the protection of internally displaced persons, the High Level Policy Dialogue will seek to examine the implementation of the Guiding Principles and discuss future efforts to address and prevent internal displacement. To identify best practices that could form the basis for future action, and in line with objectives under the GP20 Plan of Action, the event aims to foster the exchange of ideas and strategies between high level experts at both the international and the national levels and at the crossroads between research and practice.

Attendance at the event is by invitation only and takes place under Chatham House rules.
