Abeer Saady is a war correspondent with 28 years of experience covering conflict zones in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. She will share her experience and expertise as a journalist on the front line, and as a media consultant and educator for correspondents working in conflict areas. The conversation will explore the skills she gained during the course of her wide and long-standing background, and will focus on topics such as: journalists' safety, conflict-sensitive reporting, ethics for reporters, gender, dealing with radical groups, covering and countering terrorism, and the professional training she provides to her colleagues.
She is currently a PhD researcher at Dortmund University, and also works as a journalist, media consultant and educator with the aim of raising awareness on press freedom, journalists’ safety, and humanitarian aid, as well as on issues related to the role of women in the media, especially in the Arab countries. In May 2014, she was named a Hero of Information by Reporters without Borders, in recognition of her work supporting journalists in conflict zones. Currently, she is the Vice President of The International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT).

Starting in January 2018 and continuing throughout the year, the ‘My Career’ series aims to inspire anyone interested in a career in policy making. The School of Transnational Governance (STG) will invite high-profile individuals working in different policy areas to talk about their careers, in discussion with the audience and participants from different departments of the EUI. Active participation and engagement with the speakers will be highly encouraged.
