Dates:
  • Tue 08 Jan 2019 15.00 - 16.30
Add to Calendar 2019-01-08 15:00 2019-01-08 16:30 Europe/Paris Taxing carbon - A Conversation with Tatiana Falcão, Policy Leaders Fellows

The event is part of the Policy Leader Fellows’ talk series organised by STG where the Fellows introduce their works in progress and discuss their topic with the audience.

The objective of this talk is to discuss what legal and economic framework a government might consider in putting forward an environmental policy package to tax carbon and in that way, work towards a reduction in corresponding carbon dioxide emissions. Developing an efficient carbon taxation framework may become one of the driving policies in achieving the goals set in the United Nations 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
Tatiana Falcão will be discussing best policy approaches, what types of taxes are capable of inflicting a change in consumer behavior, and how to address the inherent regressiveness of a carbon tax instrument.
Finally, she will discuss how a Border Tax Adjustment may be used in order to obtain coordination in the application of domestic carbon prices, and create a regional association characterized by the application of heightened environmental protection standards.

Discussant: Adanela Musaraj, Policy Leaders Fellow (School of Transnational Governance)

All are welcome, please register.
