The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 and its unprecedented impact on societies around the world called for an urgent and creative response to assess Europe’s handling of the crisis and its ramifications for Europe and the wider world. The special online edition of SOU brought international experts together to discuss the implications of COVID-19 for key policy areas profoundly impacted by the pandemic and deliver their perspectives to a global and virtual audience.

The conference was structured in three main sessions:

• Morning: COVID-19: Health Policy and Society

• Afternoon: COVID-19: Economic Policies for the Aftermath

• Evening: COVID-19: Global Cooperation

Recordings of all sessions were uploaded to The State of the Union website in real-time.
