Thoughts for Europe is organising a series of debates with candidates for the upcoming European Parliament elections. Debates will take place from February to April 2019 with MEP candidates representing the whole EU political spectrum. Those debates, held at the European University Institute, provide a platform for an open, dynamic and informal exchange of views between candidates and the EUI Researchers’ community. This debate series is organised with the kind support of the EUI School of Transnational Governance and the Historical Archives of the European Union. Andrea Venzon, invited for our first MEP debate on 4 February, is a co-founder of Volt Europa – which is a new pan-European political movement – and a running candidate for Volt Italia. Candidates have been invited taking into account projected political weight of their respective groups, gender equality and geographical balance amongst Member States, including candidates from new and innovative political forces. Each debate lasts approximately 60 minutes striving for open and informal discussions of the running MEP with the audience, closing the debate with a small cocktail reception.¿ Thoughts for Europe aims to promote proactive involvement of the EUI Community in the elections’ debates; to give elections candidates the opportunity to engage with a knowledgeable, interested and international community; and to foster open-mindedness towards all positions, visions, and voices – be they pro or against EU politics and policies. To register, send an email at [email protected] . Everybody is welcome, within the limit of 30 participants so as to ensure a genuine conversation between the candidate and the audience. Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. For any question, please get in contact with us!
