Add to Calendar 2019-07-08 9:00 2019-07-09 19:00 Europe/Paris High-Level Policy Dialogue | Think Tanks in Europe and North America: Democracy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The objective of this High-Level Policy Dialogue is to bring together experts from diverse think tanks and the private sector, located in both Europe and North America, with the aim of exploring the implications of Artificial Intelligence in democratic societies and institutions. This High-Level Policy Dialogue is a joint initiative of the School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute in Florence (https://stg.eui.eu), the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program of the University of Pennsylvania (https://www.gotothinktank.com/) and the Danish Institute for International Studies (https://www.diis.dk).

The rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence the last decade and its impact in society is a vital topic for how world democracies will be shaped in the years to come. In this respect, this transatlantic policy dialogue will attempt to shed adequate light on the following questions:

- What are the positive consequences of Artificial Intelligence in global democratic systems?
- Is Artificial Intelligence a danger for democracy?
- How could we transform Artificial Intelligence as a useful and viable tool that enhances the consolidation of democratic structures around the globe?

The model of the STG’s High-Level Policy Dialogues is that of an open discussion among all participants triggered by short introductions by two of the participants at the start of the morning and afternoon sessions. Participation in the event is by invitation only and all deliberations will take place under Chatham House rules (no views or positions may be attributed publicly to any participants).
